Greetings,
I have my 72 Jackpiner engine ripped down to replace a crank seal and I was just getting ready to reassemble everything and noticed something that on the main shaft that concerned me. It may be nothing, but I figured I'd ask before I put everything back together and then end up with a problem down the road. Here's the deal; just above second gear on the main shaft there is a thrust washer and then a circlip, I noticed some play, about 1/32 to 3/64 between the thrust washer and the circlip. This play allows second gear to slide back and fourth on the shaft. Is this a potential issue or am I worrying about nothing? I ask because in comparing this main shaft with another one I had stashed away, I did not see the same play. It's almost like the circlip slot on the main shaft is too wide or the circlip isn't thick enough. That being said, both the thrust washer and circlip on the other shaft I have appear to be the same thickness as this one. Would anyone know the correct thickness for the following components?
PN 51.33.019.100 Thrust Washer
PN SW25 Circlip
PN 51.33.016.100 Spacer below second gear
One last item, I would just swap this out with the other main shaft parts I have, but it has other issues, namely 30+ years of corrosion and pitting.
Thanks in advance,
KD
