Post by: paul a. busick on August 14, 2009, 12:31:01 PM
Hello fellow POG members.

Recently had contact with Ron Carbaugh.  In passing he said that he had some surgery and was going to go back for some follow up treatment.  I told him that I would keep good thoughts for him and have him in my prayers.

Ron is one fine fellow and has contributed much to POG and the vintage scene.

Thanks everyone for your Prayers and thoughts.  Just to update everyone on what is going one in my world.

In June the doctors found a spot of interest on the top/back of my head.  They immediately cleaned the area up and removed the irriation revealing a small tumor.  Next was tumor removal and plastic surgery.  Next step is radiation to hopefully stop any spread of cancer cells.  I am having all this process done at M D Anderson Cancer Institute.  It is a wonderful caring place.  Again thanks for all the Prayers and thoughts and I will try to put up a good fight.

PS: The people on this are the best.  I have had all types of offers for help including some great guy from Maryland by the name of Big Tony offering to come down and watch our home while I was staying in Houston.  Thanks for all the offers

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,

Just an update;  All is well and thanks for all your Prayers.  Lessons to be learned here is that Friends are a Great Gift.

As always I always try and make something positive with a situation, so just to let everyone know if you ever require radiation treatments(heaven forbid), just call me and I will tell you what I have learned.
 Thanks again.

Ron,
I am happy to hear that our prayers are working for you.

I first met Ron in 1997 at Mid-Ohio for the Vintage Day Event where I had John Penton come down, meet everyone and sign some autographs. He pulled me over to the side late in the afternoon to thank me for what I had done. His kind words were not easy to just brush aside. What I had done was a lot of work that was done to make that event a little more fun and exciting for the Penton enthusiast who showed up. I was a little tired from that long exciting but stressful day and his words were like a shot of adreneline for me. He has a gift for making someone feel real good. And he has never failed to shower me with his kindness at the other events since then whenever we meet, talk on the phone, and share e-mails.

Thank you Ron for your continued kindness and freindship.

Oh, I'm sure that I have told you this, but some words of advice I would like to share with you and everyone reading this - "stay away from the doctors - all that they are going to do is find something wrong with you." [:o)]

Thanks everyone, and the kind words are great to hear. I was Blessed to have Lunch with Jack and GiGi Penton earlier today.  Our Group is the best and I want everyone to think at how much people on this site are dedicated to helping each other.  Thanks for your Prayers, kind posts and emails.  I will fight to hold up my end with Gods help.  Almost finished with the first of 6 weeks.

Al, you are kind, but your hard work from the start of POG and being our Frist President is a big reason for the kindness shown on this site.

Dave Withrow....what?, you are the point man.  Thanks and Happy Birthday.

Speedy,
As usual you are correct and I am Honored to have you as a Friend.  You are a True and Proven Champion and I think you help everyone around you set their standards a little higher.  Here is how I answer your Mind over Matter.  Thanks for your words of Wisdom.

WHEN YOU HAVE TALKED YOURSELF INTO WHAT YOU WANT, STOP TALKING AND BEGIN SAYING IT WITH YOUR ACTIONS.

Persuading yourself that you can do something is a strong beginning. Next develop a sound plan and get into action. The longer you delay, the harder it will be to begin. Seldom is a plan perfect. If you have a clear vision of your goal and a plan that is flexible enough to allow you to deal with unexpected obstacles or take advantage of unforeseen opportunities, don't delay another minute. Just getting into action-even if you do have to make adjustments later-will help focus your mind and channel your energies in the direction of your objective.

Thanks Steve, but I will always remember the wise words of my Great Friend Doug Wilford...."words are just words until you put them into action".
I will never forget one early morning at a Reunion Ride, Doug and I were watching the people test their bikes getting ready for day one.  I saw a nice 125 Six Day and was explaining to Doug how this guy really loved the bike and had got a Gold on his first ride after not competing for 30 years.  Doug's comment..."If he a good Friend tell him to put the packing back around the muffler."  I did and the person was very appreciative and it did help the horsepower.

Moral: No one knows everything, but some know a lot more than others..I think it is called Experience and you can't buy it.

Hey Texas- hope you're feeling better. With winter on the way and a "forced" vacation looming,I'm sure I'll be needing some guidance. I also think I need a few wardrobe tips, cuz I'm not looking as sharp as I could. I wonder how those shorts would look with long underwear!

I had the day off yesterday so I drove down to Kerrville to meet with Ron. Many thanks to Mr. Carbaugh for a great breakfast,a visit to his beautiful home and shop, and lots of comradery and discussion about Penton bikes and motorcycle history yesterday. I started exchanging emails this past winter(spring and summer) with Ron while I was laying on the sofa going through a long recovery from surgery after a bad work related injury and it was a pleasure to finally meet with him.

My prayers are with you Brother Ron for your continued improvement and I know 2010 will be better for both of us! Thanks again for the loan of the John Penton book. Am almost finished and it will be in the mail soon. Looking forward to breakfast on my dime...

Regards

Mark,
Thanks for making the 160 mile trip and it was great to meet you in person.  I forgot to try and track down my Friend that was on the Army Team back in the 1970's.  I will try and get a phone number for you.  Just a little information on Mark as so many times we exchange emails with people in the POG and really do not think about their background or what they do now.  Mark is a retired Army Colonel and is now in Law Enforcement in Central Texas.  Neat guy with a passion for Pentons.
One other thing if anyone has any information or know anyone that was on the Army Enduro Team back in the 1970's please let Mark or me know. I will be in touch Mark and thanks again for the visit.
