Title: AHRMA Barber: Golf course moto???
Post by: pakala on September 17, 2009, 04:06:23 PM
How many times have you said" I would love to get my bike and rip up that golf course"?

50 loads of topsoil, 600 cubic meters, have been brought in and covered an irrigation, sprinkler? system
and drainage system. Sprigged and seeded.
Could this be the 1st man made vintage MX track?
The description given at Ohio Town Meeting was that the terrain is going to be sculpted like a golf coarse.
Grass seeded after ea. annual Ahrma only event.
Anybody ever have dreams about riding a mx bike on a golf coarse?
Sounds like Barber is the opportunity.
Cheers Rick Hudson

Could this be TRUE?? If so, I will be driving in to Barber from Socal to race on a golf course. It is on my bucket list. FORE.......

They told us that last year too and we raced in a dirt parking lot. The description sounds great, but I will believe it when I see it. Still, come on out anyway, you will LOVE the CC course, 3+ miles of handlebar wide trees. :D

Brian,

For me 3+ miles of handlebar width trees is worse than riding in a dirt parking lot.[xx(]

Larry,

Good ride last Sunday. The dreaded neutral got you, otherwise I don't think I was going to be able to pass you.

That was a great day, good weather, good track. Unfortunately, the turn out was low. The economy is still tough.

Chuck,

Thanks.  You cut me no slack that second moto and I double missed a shift.  You rode great and your Berkie is an awesome looking little bike.  Same with your Six Days.  Had a blast warring with you on such a great track.  Are you going to Barber?

Larry,

I'm going to ISDT Reunion Ride the week before and haven't decided if I want two long drives in a row. I'll probably decide that week.

Those missed shifts can be frustrating. My Berkie shifts so much better than my six day. Not sure why, adjust the shift mechanism the same way.

Chuck,
Check the end play on the counter shaft. If you have much more than the recommended play ( in and out movement ) it will cause you to hit a lot more " neutrals ".
I found this out the hard way at the 2007 RR. By the second day 2nd gear would show up only about 20 % of the time [xx(] . The MX special test was very frustrating 5 laps . Chuckle chuckle !!!!!!

Chuck,
No tricks. It can be a big job though. If you have too much end play , you will have to split the cases , inspect the tapered roller bearing , re-shim the counter shaft and or replace the bearing. Be sure the bearing on the other end of the shaft is good shape also.
I caused my own problem [:I].
We changed the shock mounting to get 6.5 inches of travel in the rear and did not have the chain adjusted correctly for that much swing arm travel [8D]. Put way too much load on the tapered roller and ended up with about 1/8 inch end play on the counter shaft.
