Title: swap meet Hi-Point boot score
Post by: OhioTed on September 24, 2009, 08:56:38 PM
Hey, guys.  I couldn't resist sharing my good fortune at scoring a pair of Hi-Point boots for FIVE BUCKS!  I found 'em at an automotive swap meet.  Goes to show that you never know what you're going to find.

Couple of questions about them that maybe someone can answer.  Note the Hi-Point plate on the side.  I presume that means they were produced during the time that Penton Imports still owned Hi-Point?  Note also the type of "buckles" this pair has.  The Hi-Point boot I owned back in the old days used REAL buckles, into which leather straps from the boots themselves fastened.  This kind was just a later version?  Finally, if you look closely, you can see a big "V" cast into the front plate.  I've never seen this before.  Significance?

Ted,

I am pretty sure the big "V" on the front was for the style name of Super Victory.

No picture to look at but those sound like the early 80's version of the boot. They still had the metal plate but went to a plastic buckle strap and levered buckle system. I had a pair of the blue Hi Points at that time.

I have owned both types,Buckle and the kind over the pin leather strap. The leather strap boots I loved the G.P's I didn't like as much. If they are size 12 I will double your money and give you $10.00:D[:p]

That's a pretty tempting offer, Thomas.  I'm actually not sure of the size on these.  However, I wear a ten and this pair is snug on me.  Twelves they definitely aint.  But, next five dollar pair of HP's I find, in size 12, are yours, man.

Way cool find Ted! The Reunion Ride Banquet would be an awesome place to show these off and they are just the type of items that Kent is looking for. There will be tables just for this kind of thing. Also, ck out this really cool web site for info on the Hi-Point boots....http://www.classicboots.com/moto/hipoint.htm
See you this weekend!!

Awesome site, Toni.  Thank you so much.  I will bring the boots along to the RR.  I've got some other cool, old gear, too.  A Bell TX500 helmet, an old Electro helmet, and something I just dug out of an old gear bag - a genuine "duckbill" visor!  You know the one I mean - the very earliest ones, which are virtually flat and have square edges.  That old gear bag is covered with ISDT patches, too.  Does this sound like anything Kent is looking to have displayed?

Jerry (Classic Boots) is a great friend of mine, it is amazing how many pairs of boots he has.  I am guessing around 400+ pairs or that number could be for the leather jackets he has collected, or firemans boots or....  He is also one heck of a sound man for concerts.

Can someone tell me more about what Kent is looking for to display at the RR? I have some interesting gear I could bring but I know nothing about this display.
Thanks, Jerry

Ted and Jerry,

I think everyone would enjoy seeing your gear on display.  There is plenty of room at the banquet facility, so I hope everyone considers bringing some memorabilia, be it gear, pictures, trophies, motorcycles, etc!  Also, I just added a "ISDTRR Banquet" topic...please check it out and see if that answers any other questions.

A few years ago I saw an ad in the Michigan's Trail Rider magazine for a couple of pairs of Hi-Point boots. One pair was used but in good condition the other was still brand new in the box. I thought; darn these are probably looooong gone but I called anyway and to my surprise the boots were still available. I think I paid around $200 for both pairs. I guess these will be for "display only".

The only bummer was that the owner ected his name on the small metal tab of each boot.

Alpinestars makes a reproduction of the Hi-Point Super Victory boots.  They have been available in the UK for quite a while, but I just found them in the US at the site below.  I don't know how the quality stacks up against the originals, but I figured I'd pass this along.
