Title: Penton frames
Post by: Jeff D on October 05, 2009, 12:53:16 PM
I picked up some frames and stuff at the Reunion that need to find a new home.  They actually belong to Phast Phil Ketchum, so questions can be directed to him since he knows the particulars, but here is a list of what he's got to sell:
Powder coated frame (I think an MC-5?)-silver
2 Powder coated swingarms to fit same frame-silver
2 pair upper & lower triple clamps, powder coated silver
MC-5 frame and swingarm that need painting
Conical hub rear wheel complete
250 Sachs cases, horizontal split so Hercules?
White Mint 400 fuel tank, decent condition
Motoplat
250 cylinder
A few other assorted bits and pieces.
The powder coated stuff looks really sharp, a good start for a restoration project.
Hopefully Phil will chime in here with details, etc.  Parts are currently located at my house south of Kansas City.

Thanks Jeff.  I finally made it to his place and picked up this Penton/KTM parts stash.  While I'm more into the KTM's/Hercules stuff I felt it would be a good thing to get these bits into circulation and/or into the hands of POG people.  Both the KTM and Penton triple clamps are powder coated and both are 35mm.  I forgot to take a picture of the 250 cylinder and the Mint 400 tank and will do that ASAP.

In the meantime, hopefully these will suffice:

Phil,
From the pics, it looks like both frames are 78 MC5 models, even though one is painted silver, instead of orange. The swingarm shown behind the other one I am not sure about with the dual rear shock mounts, unless it has been modified. Mike

Mike you are right both frames are 1978 models. On the swing arms one is for a 1978,the other one is for a 1976-1977 mc5-gs6.  Later Gary

Gary,
Have the extra set of shock mounts been added? I don't remember them on any of mine. Mike

The 250 cylinder has a cracked skirt in two places so it's probably destined for the scrap heap.  The tank has been repaired with JB Weld on the top + there's evidence of a prior repair near one of the petcocks, but overall a decent fiberglas tank to restore.

Shoot me an email if there's interest in these parts or else I'll end up selling them on ePay.
