Title: Brown Mountain Trail System N Carolina
Post by: Paul Danik on October 28, 2009, 07:15:44 PM
Some riders in the Pittsburgh area have been talking about going to the Brown Mountain ORV Park in North Carolina, I have never heard of the area.  Does anyone have any experience or comments on this riding area?
We would be riding modern bikes.
Here is a link to their website.

I don't know about that area, but a bunch of Hodaka guys got together and rode the Allegheny area of Pa a few weeks back. I was going to join them, but things just didn't come together.

We did the Brown Mountain Lights enduro some years back.  Beautiful country, great riding.  Big hills/small mountains type of terrain.  The ground surface is interesting:  a mixture of sandy soil and granite rock.  Great traction!  Go for it.  You'll be glad you did.

Note, know why they call that enduro the "Brown Mountain Lights"?  Well, evidently the area is known for an unexplained phenomenon of mysterious lights seen on the mountain, going back many generations.  Far out.

There was a brigade known as the "Brown Mountain Boys" who fought in the Civil War (or War of Northern Aggression depending upon which side of the Mason-Dixon line you live!).  I thought they were from up in Stokes County which is a bit east of the Morganton area, but could be the same gang.
