Title: Mystery frame ID
Post by: Britt Boyette on November 24, 2009, 12:17:41 PM
I saw a 74-75 KTM yesterday that I was not able to run the numbers on but it had a frame unlike any I had ever seem before. The rear down tubes that run from the seat/shock area down to the engine craddle were a square looking style of tube rather than the round I'm so use to seeing. It did have the multi-position shock setting thing too but I was thrown off by the square tubing. All the welds and finish appear factory too. What is it?

Britt,
Was it more like a large oval rear frame tube? If so, it was probably a 74.5-76 enduro frame. Once they when to the multi-position upper shock mounts, the rear down tube size was drastically enlarged for strength.
Just for an example, here is a chassis for a 75 Mint 400 that Mike G has since restored. Mike

Yes, it looks just like that. Red tank with a red frame too.
