I was browsing through the Penton talk site, and noticed something interesting. I was wondering if any other POG members noticed. Click on the topic "Handle bars for early CMF Pentons". Look at the post by John Durrill (posted 11-22-09) and check out the photo of three Pentons in a row. Do you notice anything interesting?
Appears to be a reverse negative pic?
OLD BIKES RULE!!!
A guy putting on suspenders, another guy with hair longer than mine, a lot of duct tape on the first bike, two on-lookers, a really nice car. Pretty much a neat old picture from the 70's.
I can't find Waldo, so I guess I'm missing the negativity.
Good Job! This seemed to have been an easy one for Tim. I'm not sure how many times I looked at the Pentons in the photo and never noticed exactly what was different. Can they all be HIRO Pentons? Are those "trick" pipes on them? Are these three riders REALLY that left-hand dominant (throttle...)? The clue was in the title, "Don't want to be NEGATIVE, but".
joe,
The picture was taken in Valdosta GA. in 73 at an enduro.
I slipped up , should not have let that picture out of the box. [B)] The 2 Six-Days had top secret prototype Sachs engines we were testing for Sachs. The factory had added 2 more neutrals to the six we normal got with our 6/A and 6/B engines. [:p] Thats why they MAY APPEAR to be somewhat different from a normal CMF 125 Sachs engine Penton. It's only an illusion. [}:)] Chuckle , chuckle!!!!!!!!

John,
Were those the ones that were designed to be used to convert the last of the Limey enduro riders? :D
That reminds me of the AJS 250 Stormer that a local dealer let us play with for a couple of weeks....totally opposite of what was "normal". It always amazed me how some guys could ride two classes in the scrambles events of days gone by on bikes that shifted on different sides.

I can remember my first time riding a friend's Moto Beta. The shifter was on the right side, and I think the brake was on the left side. Everything worked well until I went into a turn and hit the "brake", which was really the shifter. Those were the days when the shifter was on either side.
This summer we had a small ride and started swapping bikes. One of the guys had a 60s BSA 400 scrambler with right-side shift AND the shifter was flipped backwards so you pressed DOWN to upshift. Crazy but fun!

DARN .... odlaW was there.
Paul:
What do you mean in "days gone by?" Many of us still ride both left and right side shift. It really gets fun when I have back-to-back motos with my Penton 125 and Triumph 500 in the AHRMA Premier/Classic events.

Joe go back to the posting and see if you can find what you missed or anyone else :):D and you will win a penton patch logo. LG
"Gooddirt" (Hey, that's you!) was the first POG member to notice something interesting about the photo of the three Pentons. Brian Kirby was the first POG member to respond correctly. Ooops, I am just slow to catch on. joe
