Title: A good Brush for cleaning axel bushings/spacers
Post by: garrettccovington on December 22, 2009, 07:36:04 PM
I've been working on my 79 MC80 and the Axles were a bear to get out to fix the brakes.  I don't think they have ever been removed from the bike.  It looks like the grease that was on the axles had turned to black crud and the surrounding metal had started to oxidize and mag rot.  I found this brush that I could stick in the wheel to clean out the spacer between the bearings and it works perfect.  Its made by the Magnolia Brush co. ( http://www.magnoliabrush.com/ ) out of Texas p/n  541. 18" retro fit tube brush 3/4" made out of very stiff nylon. Push it all the way thru and pull it back out a couple of times and the rust/rot is gone.  I put a thin coat of Permatex anti seize lubricant on the axle's durning re-asembly.  Now my brakes and wheels work perfect.
