Title: 250 piston needed
Post by: Bob Marsh on December 26, 2009, 04:24:17 PM
I need a stock bore piston for a hare scrambler-75 model. New used it does not matter as long as it is good with rings. I just bought a piston off ebay and it was supposed to be for a 250, but it is 81mm bore-and as you know that is a mint 400. So if anybody needs a good stock piston and rings for a 400 let me know-or if you want to trade. Wish I could bore my cylinder I would do that, but I highly doubt a 10 mm overbore on a stock sleeve..

Bob,
I have a new, NOS Mahle 71MM piston with new rings but no new piston pin, that has a couple of very minor nicks from shelf storage and movement around in my shop & I also have a very nice standard bore 74-77 cylinder to match it that Gary Ellis measured and confired that the piston to cyl clearance might even need a slight hone to fit, but no projects requiring either one right now. I need a 3rd over piston for my a 78-80 KTM 250 since I have a worn 78-80 cylinder that is next on my agenda. I would take $80 shipped for the piston or $150 for piston and cylinder shipped. Ok, I was hoping for an excellent used one, but that is a good deal for a new one. Let me really check my cylinder again and see if I need a cylinder or not and I will get back with you about which way to go.. Thanks

I might have 3rd over 250. I do have new 71mm rings, but would have to check on used 71mm pistons as well. LG

Larry,
My NOS Mahle piston has new rings. Do you have new rings to fit the 3rd over piston? I have a NOS Wiseco .080 over 250 piston with rings, but I dont want to take a pretty fair 2nd over cylinder out that far. Will a 78-80 250 cylinder even bore out 2.0mm? Mike

Bob,  Most ebay sellers are reasonable about returns, especially if the item is incorrect.   Was it advertized as a 250 piston?   But it was really a 400 piston....   I hope there would not be a problem with returning it.

Joe, I have wrote the seller, but he is not happy with me-I have wrote him twice about the piston before I got it. He is 90 miles down the road and I bought and paid for it on dec 15th, did not receive it until dec 26th. He has quick shipping from other stuff I bought from him and his feedback. I kind of expected it within a couple or so days. So after a week I wrote him and said what's up-you are only one day away by mail...he said he had sent it on the 19th, well this was the 22nd, so it should have gotten here by then, then on the 24th when it did not show up, I wrote again..He did ship it on the 19th by the postmark...post office was just running really slow-especially when it was sent priority so it should have been here within two days period. Anyway I wrote him about it saturday and have heard nothing, but I did not pay much for it and figured I would keep it in case I ever get another 400, or if someone here needs a good cheap piston and rings, and it is definitely a 400 piston-looks just like the 250 piston-just 10mm larger..a Mahle and was advertised as a 250 piston

If the stock piston does not get sold, I believe I am interested, just have to check a cylinder for sure.
thanks

The NOS standard Mahle piston with rings is sold. The standard 74-77 250 cylinder is still available for $75 including US Priority Mail delivery. Thanks, Mike

I found a good used 71.5 mm Wiseco Piston this morning with rings.

Maybe a trade for an allow 49.5 Sachs piston or a couple bucks plus shipping.

Sounds good, I  think I sold the whole 49cc sachs motor I had, but if not it may have a good piston in it..Are you talking about a moped sachs engine or a penton 50cc?? I had a 62 sachs moped that I was parting out..I can use the piston for future use whenever I have to bore my cylinder-right now I am lucky it is good shape and standard size..
