Title: Too darn cold!
Post by: David Laite on December 29, 2009, 01:30:37 PM
I was really thinking about ditching work today in order to get some practice in but it is just too darn cold; wind chill is 2, I'm all set with that but with the Iceberg 300 in N.H. only next month I need to sharpen up those skills.

Just got back from running a few miles in the McDowell Mountain trails in Scottsdale Az.  In a T-shirt and shorts!! It's like a brutal wind chill of 60 here. Sorry =)

Charles, if you are not doing anything Sunday, stop by Social Circle, I am running the Battle of Atlanta 8 hour race. Looks like a low 38 and highs in the mid 50s for Atlanta on Sunday, perfect riding weather.

The most severe weather which I ever attended a motorcycle race was at Amherst Meadowlarks, in Amherst, Ohio.  I believe it may have been one of the ANNULE JOSHUA McCOY NASHNAL CHAMPEEN HAIR SCRAMBELS (sic), around the later 1970's.   Anyway,  I remember it being minus 15 degrees F., and with the wind chill, it was colder than minus 50 degrees F.   Many of the top Penton riders attended.   I had to help Mark Unger push his Penton Berkshire around the pits even after the START flag dropped to get it to fire.  Some wise-old Yamaha rider had a small camp fire under the crankcase of his bike.   Conditions were interesting.  No mud.  A little dust, even.  There was a little snow on the ground, but not much.   Actually, the track was fairly easy to ride, other than it being frozen solid.  Any other racers remember this race?    joe
