The vaporizor/atomizer on my 27.5 mm Bing has 4 holes equally spaced (90 degreees) around one end. Are these holes to be aligned along the axis of the carb or does it matter how the atomizer is inserted? Neither my Penton owner's manual or the Bing parts manual I have addresses this installation.

Bill,
I don't think it matters. However, you should be using the model 40-404 atomizer with the half-moon cutout. The open side goes toward the engine. I'll look in my carb parts to see if I have an extra one. Team Tortoise will benefit from the extra smooth power delivery produced by the newer style (40 years ago) atomizer. -EP

Ernie:
Thanks. I was not aware of another type of atomizer. If you have an extra 40-404, I will give it a try. You are correct in that Team Tortoise needs all the help we can get. Our goal for 2010 is to move up to being one of the top 25 teams. I need to check with Brian the scorekeeper, but I think we actually finished ahead of someone last year.
If you are coming to Gatorback, I can switch atomizers there.
Thanks again, Bill
