Title: Hole in case
Post by: Lloyd Boland on February 06, 2010, 12:27:54 PM
While working on the swingarm, I noticed what appears to be a hole in the cases on my 1977 KTM MC-5, 250 motor.  I had not noticed it before, but to tell you the truth, I think oldhimers is setting in.  It is located between the left side case and the middle case, at the top back part of the motor just above the rear motor mount.  I notice it while working on the swingarm.  The funny thing is that it is perfectly rectangular in shape and no rough edges.  It looks like it was machined that way.  With all the riding, dirt, bike washes, etc, the oil always comes out clean.  Nothing has leaked out.  Is this machined this way or do I have a hole in my case?  I have owned the bike for about 6-7 years and had it rebuilt when I first got it but I don't remember this hole.  Man, I am really beginning to think my mind is going.  I hope everyone is safe from the weather.

Thanks.

Lloyd

When I bought my mc80, I noticed the same thing and thought the same thing.  That was how mine was made.
