Title: 2.50 x 21 mx front tire needed (new)
Post by: VICTOR MONZ on March 08, 2010, 11:23:05 AM
Having a bit of trouble finding a 2.50 x 21 mx tire for my 1969 Sachs....any advice ?  It has the "Forrest Gump" front end.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.  Bought a 3.50 x 18 755 Chen Shing for the rear and would love to match it up.

Victor,
I have used the 3.00x21 C755 Cheng Shin on the front leading link DKW and on Pentons. Very reasonably priced at Rocky Mountain ATV/MC. I don't know if they have the 2.5x21.

I picked up some C755's for my Penton bikes a couple of weeks ago from Dennis Kirk; unbeatable prices and of course free ship.

Is this a K80GS Boondocker ?  I think the 100 & 125 bikes had at least a 2.75X21.  I had a 250X21 once on my SL125 and it was too small and prone to flats.

It is the tire which came on my 1969 Sachs "Cross Country" 125.

I went with the Cheng Shin 3.00 x 21 for the front and a 3.50 x 18 Cheng Shin on the rear, it probably won't see much dirt while I have it.

This little Sachs 125 is really a snappy machine, it has a Puch head on it, I was told it is a high compression set up and it has some get up and go !

Victor

If anyone has more info on it I would love to know more about the iron barrel and Puch head set up.

Victor, 2:50 x 21" Barums are a dime a dozen here.  There are over 1,000 NOS Barums in a warehouse in Ohio if you need any.  3:50 x 18's, 4:00 x 18", 2:50 x 21's.  Contact me and I can give you a contact.

Kip.

I'll take a dozen....where do I send my dime !

Dale and Kip.  I bought a pair of Cheng Shins for now, but will keep the offers in mind.

Thanks for responding.  Much appreciated.

Those Barums are good for display but not riding. Too brittle after all these years.

I don't think anyone would be willing to mount these old tires. There is a shop up in Gloucester that will mount and balance any motorcycle tire for $25, however won't touch a tire more than five years old. Additionally the bead becomes so rigid you risk tweaking a nice Akront in the process. I changed the front tire on my XT200 last Summer due to sidewall cracking and nervous taking it over the road, original IRC GP-1 from 1982. I literally had to cut the tire off, first with a sharp utility knife, then cut the bead with a sawzall. New tires you can pretty much mount with your thumbs and some tire lube since they are so pliable. IRC still makes the GP-1 if
you need a D.O.T. approved dual-sport tire.
