I've seen some cool things since I started admiring some of the vintage bike restorations that are done - and that has to be one of the coolest.  Great concept, interesting updates to the bike, and right-side shifting on that 'Cross.  I actually swung my leg over one of these when I 15 yrs. old - almost killed myself when I got going too fast down a gravel road and suddenly "blanked" on the whole right side/left side thing. [:p]

I sent the link to the guy at Motorcycle Picture of the Day - I figure he can't pass this beauty up.  Thanks for posting it!

I think it would be something if they had a vintage class in the Baja 500. I could see some Mint 400's blasting through tiny Mexican towns at warp speed on their way to victory.

And the Motorcycle Picture of the Day site has now acknowledged this neat project (and Huskyrestorations.com) as well as own website.  Picture of the Day is a great "surf" BTW...but be careful - the other blogs that are linked can suck you right into a lost afternoon...[8D]

I'd like to see how the bike and rider look at the end of 500 miles.

These kinds of things sound great until you actually do it. I admire his ambition, but I predict he starts to regret it about 50 miles in. The Baja 500 beat the daylights out of me on an '82 Husky with 12+ inches of travel, 4" will be torture.

It will give him a chance to summon his Super Navy Seal powers.:D I also heard Malcolm Smith is going to lend a hand, can't do any better than that!

I was at the 1968 Baja 500 when Malcom rode his Husky to 2nd overall.  Parnelli (sp) Jones got 1st overall.

Malcom had a leak in his crankcase and was taking oil from his forks to put in the tranny to allow him to finish.

He was the man.
