Title: High Compression Head
Post by: Gordon Brennan on April 03, 2010, 09:54:52 PM
Wanted: High Compression Head for my 1251/5A Sachs Motor.
I have heard of them. People recommend them. But I can't find one.
Any information or known whereabouts is appreciated.

I have seen them on Ebay under Sachs parts.  I have heard that it is actually a PUCH head, which looks like a small sunburst, which is the high compression head.   Correct me if I'm wrong!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there are both out there. Sachs high compression heads and Puchs which also will work.
I have a Sachs head on mine whereas Glenn Berry has a Puch head on his.

Have 1mm milled off of a stock head and you have essentially the same thing as the high compression head. I have also heard of people using 100 heads with good results.

I have made a jig to hold the Sachs heads on the lathe to machine them to raise the compression, which requires recutting the squish band. $50, plus return shipping. JP

Gordon,
There you go.  JP is well known and does nice work.

I don't doubt JP's work. But I want to keep the original head, as I have every original part to this bike. I also like the look of that small radial head.
If I come up empty, I'll find a stock 1251/5A head and let JP have at it.
Maybe someone here has one of those; a stock 1251/5A head, for a reasonable price. I'll pay you and have you ship it straight to JP.
