Title: What if Penton switched to Puch motors?
Post by: desmond197 on April 14, 2010, 08:11:05 PM
I was riding my Greeves Pathfinder Enduro with a Puch 175 motor in it. The bike is a crappy trials bike but a much better enduro bike. The Puch 175 motor I think is a great motor and compares well to my Husky 250 of the same era. I wonder if the Penton/Puch had come out if it would have changed anything.

I can say for one thing, if they used the ST frame, it is a bear fitting that huge Puch engine in the frame and changing the drive side.  Took me a year to figure it out and do it, other than that, it was pretty being bronze/white and a silver frame! Had to put the airbox on the other side and manufacture a pipe from scratch.  Needless to say, I won't be building another[:0]

Just my thought but if the Puch engine had replaced the Sachs 5a or 6b then there would have been about 50 billion less missed shifts in the Penton history. ted

I would still like to know if the Hiro engine performed as well as the Sachs, and shifted better? Mike

I'm not so sure, I owned a Can Am 310 Hiro powered trials bike. It had a horrible gear box.
