Title: choke confusion
Post by: Mike Hufnagel on July 03, 2010, 10:49:41 AM
Gentlemen,

I am a little confused about the choke/enricher on a 54 bing. (the one with the slide in the carb slide) My understanding is that when the slack is out of the cable (no tension on the spring and the choke slide is visible when the throttle is opened ) the choke is on? And when the handlebar lever is pulled down with tension ON the spring, that the choke is off. Is this correct?

And what is preventing the choke/enricher from vibrating slowly on  when riding? The spring washer on the choke lever? Seems to me that there would be a more positive way of engaging the choke off.

That is correct, slack out=choke on. I take the choke out of Bings and just use the tickler.

Or Mike,
You can do what we do. Use an Inner tube rubber band to hold it off. It slips right off when you have to use it for cold starts.
