Title: Mountaingoatfest - Stolen RM250 recovered!
Post by: Dale Fisher on July 26, 2010, 06:54:39 AM
For those of you unable to attend you missed a unique opportunity to experience a one mile plus grass mx track set on the side of a small mountain.  From the uphill start you wound your way up the mountain on undulating corners, bumps, and off camber turns.  Once at the top it was mostly downhill with some more challenging corners and off camber work, a sharp dip down into a low area, and then a series of tight turns up a hill to the start area.  AHRMA did an impressive job (with perhaps the exception of the pits and camping area) as someone had their bike stolen Thursday evening but the event ran like clockwork.  There was plenty of audio-visual stimulation in and around Morgantown centered around the biker festival and many activities.

These pictures were taken Sunday from a hill high above the track.  Most if not all of the grass is now long gone and the post-vintage jump sections have been opened up and are in use.

Thanks Dale.  That track looks mighty fine!  Remind organizers to post your photos when promoting the event next year.

Since you were at both VMD and MF how did they compare: track, competition, organization?

And, is there any reason to tie AHRMA dirt activities to MF?  From what I can tell, the MX & CC were not near the "loud-pipes, black leather & chrome" parade areas.  My point is that if AHRMA's success in West Virginia is not tied to MF, then you might be able to pick a cooler date which would help with participation ... maybe?

the cc was about 40 miles out. the mx hillside pictured right there is in the middle of the chrome, loud pipe crowd and at the base of the decadence and debauchery hill. there may be some talk of trying to move the CC and trials to on site. it rained and stormed during pvmx intermission canceling the second set of motos. as much as i liked the track, being on the side of the mountain/hill presents significant issues if and when it rains.
for you guys that didn't make it, all in all,it was a great event. other than the rainout, the races went off without a hitch.  the festival itself had good entertainment. bob adams had a pv bike stolen on thurs night so that side of it was a definate bummer.

I think the two events were "seperate" even though we shared the same space is some cases.  There were a few of the MF atendees that stopped to briefly watch and some that had to stop because the road was blocked off as bikes went back and forth from the start/finish areas.  The track definatley rode better than walking it, pant, pant, huff, huff.
Congrads to Chuck Reuben who took top honors in conquering the hill keeping his Berkie flying in the 100cc intermediate class.

Was browsing through Mark's VMX site this morning and found the following post.  Yeah!

 ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ad # 3156514 July 27, 2010

The stolen RM250 has been found! I posted an ad on craigslist Morgantown that resulted in a call that led the police right to the bike. The bike suffered some damage, but not as much as that to the guy who fell off it!

Thanks to all who offered help and empathy. You're fine people.
