Title: Ditched the Bing

..For a Lectron!

 After spending way more $$ than I was comfortable with trying to get the stock Bing to work correctly on my 76 400 Penton, I decided to order a new Lectron from Kevin at Lectron Fuel Systems.

 //www.lectronfuelsystems.com

One of my major concerns was I did not want it to look like a hodge podge installation with funky hose adapters and modifications to the stock air boot.  Kevin handled this request by milling a custom spigot mount very similar to the Bing and milled the air horn to match the stock air boot.  Installation was a breeze and jetting was delivered spot-on.  Man, what a difference.  The old 400 now starts one kick hot or cold and the power delivery is much more linear, pulling cleanly from idle on up.  Infact, the bike runs so nice that I've used it more in the last two weeks than I have in the last 10 years!

I could not be happier with the end result. Kevin was great to deal with and delivered exactly what I was looking for!

Good deal Kurt!

I have a couple of Lectron carbs (practically new) lying around that I found in a miscellaneous parts box I received when I purchased a 79 Maico 450 GS this Summer. I might have to try them out one day. So far, the Bings on the Penton, Maicos, Hercules have held up fine...Good to hear you great success with the Lectron, and I'll certainly keep this conversion in mind when and if the need should arise...Thanks for the pics.

Nice install - very clean. I like the intake mount alot - when we used to get them from Hi-Point they came with a piece of rubber hose - which was ok, but it made the carb sit back so far in the airbox boot. plus the hose didn't quite fit both the carb & the manifold ideally & the carb tended to bounce around a bit.

The Lectrons always did make jetting those bikes a breeze, and cleaned up a myriad of starting & idling problems.

Another one of the innovations that John ran across that is still making these bikes better......

What's the going price of a new Lectron these days with all the trimmings?

It was pricey at $360 including the custom spigot mount but I've got no regrets.  The bike is so much more user friendly.  As a plus, there's no more dealing with the pre-mix mess from the tickle button.
