Has anyone run a set of Fox Airshox on their MC5 before? I just got a pair of them and of course they need rebuild and have a bit of chain rash. I was thinking they would make a great pair of racing shocks if they were worth the trouble. I can rebuild them for under $100 as all the parts are available and the shafts look great. If their not worth the time on my MC5 project then I'll throw them on eBay or something.

Hey Britt, I had a set of the 1st Generation air shox on my MC 5 I had to cut the side panels to make it fit, but it can be done. I don't remember if I had to make a chain guide to keep the chain away from the shafts or not, they worked fine.. I have talked to lots of guys that have run fox shox and they love them.. I am running a set of fox gas shocks on my, I have for years and I think they are just about the best shock I have ever run.. but then we all have our favorites... I have a set of WP on my big bore Maico and they work fine, no complaints.. not stellar but not annoying either. I have to say that they have really held up well.. I think I have couple hundred races on them and they still do not leak... how cool is that.

Britt I have had generation 2 Airshox on my 76 MC5 for 30 years. They have gone from great to bad and back again depending on the stsate of maintenance. Basically they are worth putting on as you can play around with them a lot. Back in the day I got new top shock mounts made as the body will not clear the frame loop. didn't have problems with the side panels probably because the shock is further out. Used both a blkadder and no bladder. I am currently using no bladder because I thought they were leaking so I tossed them. May get around to buying some new ones.
Here's a picture from back in 'the day' of my brand new 78 KTM / Fox Air shocks.

britt, i have ran a pair on my 76 mc5 for the last eight season, they have been charged twice and now are ready for the third charge, they work great. hope this helps.
Cool pic! My 78 came w/ Fox gas shox.

I'm thinking now that I'm not going to use them. I think I would rather have an orginal set of Zooks than the Fox Airshox.

Was your bike the one that was running those cool looking aluminum side panels or was that someone else?

Hey Britt, yes. They were given to me by a friend back in the day. He worked for GP cycles in Cupertino CA. It was half owned by the Fox brothers.. I actually bought that bike there. He had asked me if I was interested in running the same number plates as the boys who were sponsored by that shop and I jumped at the chance.. The year was spring of 77 and they have been on that bike ever since..
I started the bike the other day, runs great! I hope to ride soon!
