Title: Modern KTM crank seal question
Post by: skiracer on October 11, 2010, 06:48:48 PM
I have oil leaking from my tranny into the crank on my KTM 200 EXC.

I am assuming it is leaking through the crank seal on the clutch side.  The bike runs fine, but smokes a lot, and my oil is disappearing from the tranny......

Questions:  Can I change the crank seal on the clutch side without splitting the cases?

Do I need a special tool to take the seal out?

Thanks, James

Rod Gorzny would be a better person for this but I would say No and No but I may be all wet. I would contact a KTM dealer or refer to a KTM shop manual

I am pretty sure(90%) it can be done without splitting the cases.

James you will have to split the cases. I would go through the motor and check it,if I had it down that far. No special tools to replace the seal, but you will have to have a tool to set the power valve. I have the tool. Later Gary
