Morning all. I noticed this on local CL (Roanoke, VA), and wanted to pass it along. I don't know this guy, and have nothing to do with the bike. I was hoping to get it at a low price, but can't afford what he wants. It isn't a 69 like advertised, but may be of interest to one of you. I will be glad to help out any of you if interested. I can pick it up and hold/take to terminal if you like. My cell is 540-815-8411. Call anytime.
Thanks,
Rob Brown

Ben,
Thanks for responding. I have some Penton friends that I'm going to forward this to. They may have more to put into it than I do. I may want to come up and look at it, either for them or me if the price comes down more. I'm stuck on Pentons, even if only for parts. Do you have the VIN for the bike? I would like to verify the year. It will be found on the steering neck of the frame. I will be glad to give you a call after that.
Thanks again,
Rob

p.s.- I used to work at Dixie Caverns when I was 13. They paid me a whopping .75/hour!!! Tells you my age... lol!

Subject: RE: 1969 Penton Dirt bike - $700 (Glenvar, Va)
Hi Rob,
Well that's cool. I work part time at Dixie Caverns. I have seen these things in running condition but not that good of shape for $1,300, and the guy I bought this off of said he has seen rusty old pieces going for $400. some of the people that have came to look at it said the seat pans, exhaust, and if the back bone isn't rusted out are pretty hard to find, and I have all that so I'm thinking $700obo is a pretty good starting price. My number is (937)2130800. Give me a call if you would like to set up a time to look at it.
Thanks, Ben

Ben,
I grew up in the Glenvar area, and my parents still live at Dixie Caverns. That bike looks like one of my old Pentons. Who knows, maybe it is. Anyway, I am interested but the price is pretty far off for what you have there. If it gets down a lot more, I would be interested. It is not a 69, however. It looks more like 73-ish. I would be glad to research it if you can send me the frame number. My number is a local Roanoke listing. 815-8411. Thanks,
Rob

p.s.- I took a closer look at the pics, and noticed the shock holes. Maybe a 74 or 74 1/2?
I couldn't get edit function to work...
Forks look to be 72-73, 74 were 35mm with out he fork brace bosses. I beleive '74 also had the side cover that covered the exhaust pipe.
My best guess is likely a 1973, or very late 1972. Not a 1974 by a long shot. joe
