I have just started working on my basket case Penton that I purchased a number of months ago. It was sold to me as a Hare Scrambler. However, the engine code and frame code show that it was made in 1976. My impression from reading the "production year guide is that the Hare Scrambler was not made in 1976. The pipe, air box, and gas tank look like they came from a 75 model. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael
Michael,
If the frame # starts with 601 or any combination starting with 6xx. then what you have is called a Cross Country or Enduro 1976 model, available in 127, 175, 250, & 400 engines sizes. They are basically the same as a Hare Scrambler, and are usually orange in color. Mike

Thank you for the information. I think that I will take some liberties with bike and finish it to look like a Hare Scrambler since I have the other components (pipe, tank, airbox).

I have one that I plan on doing the same thing too, and even recently aquired the rear flanged Akront wheel for this project. I already have an early '74 red tank MX, and this one may wind up as an Enduro version, but with an MX tank as well. Mike
