Can anyone recommend someone who can rebuild early 80's KTM 495 bottom ends? I have 2 complete motors & one parts motor.
Also, does 495 piston come is a GS type 2 ring style?

Hello, Chicago Jerry is sort of local for you. He lives in Northern Ohio. If interested, respond and I will look up his email address or phone no. Try

I think that the only pistons available are Wiseco pistons. In that case, the 1981 style without reed valves is a single ring piston. The 1982 - 1984 style is a two ring piston.
Prices around $185

Be sure to use M30 magneto bearings, supplied by André H:

Mike,
For crank bearings (M30), go to this site - http://www.ktm495.mxbikes.com/
Hans had these bearings made up by the original manufacturer, SKF. Prices are around $50.00.
As for a motor builder, I would go with Gary Ellis. You won't find anyone better.
Tony
No Tony, I had them made by a current supplier for SKF and Timken. They are however an exact copy of the Steyr bearing.
Been raced by numerous riders all over the world for a couple of years now with not one single complaint, that I have heard of.
I think we safely can say that they are good enough by now.
The price today is 32 EUR a piece.
Steve "Flash" Ling is the go-to guy in the U.S. for 495 parts and information. I always check to see if Al has the part first, then I check with Steve Ling or Andre Horvath of KTM Klassiker.
As far as a bottom end rebuild goes, there are quite a few people here that do good work: Steve Ling, Gary Ellis, and James Giddings all have well-earned reputations.
