Greetings,
This Sunday is the Potomac Vintage Riders swapmeet at the York, PA County Fairgrounds. The link below will provide details for anyone who needs them. I am hoping to cross the snow covered mountains and enjoy the days festivities and do a lot of visiting. Usually I spend most of the day realizing that I was to slow to get the "really good deals", but heck, I still have a lot of fun :) Anyone else planning on going?

I have been keeping a close eye on the weather forcast and will be venturing out to make the trip to Mecca (York) again this year. Rosemary is not up to traveling at this time, so in addition to my assortment of Penton Parts I will also be making a slight detour to bring Ted Guthrie to Mecca also. It is going to be a fun and exciting trip and the two of us will be looking forward to seeing the east coast POG members and other off road enthusiasts.

Lookin' forward to it.:)

Men, I have left emails for Paul and Ted and will be talking again to Chi Jerry tomorrow. Al, I left a msg for you in Ted's email since all I have is your work email. Anyway the likely plan is for Chi Jerry to swing by our place in Ligonier PA (about 1 hour east of Pittsburgh and therefore 3-5 hours depending on speed from York. We have a bike pickup under discussion. Amy (my wfe) will have a massive batch of chili ready and any and all POGers and friends are welcome and encouraged to stop on the way home. We are not too far from the turnpike. I completely realize the need to keep rolling when you are on the road so if this works great if not no problem!! Go Steelers!!
Mars, if you sre sending E mails thru this site, they aren't going thru. If you have direct E mail addresses, disregaurd.
Many thanks but yes I have gone direct! Please feel free to stop by if you are passing through.
I'm coming in from the north and will return the same way. Down and up US 15.
Thanks to a few Poggers and Potomac Vintage Riders a couple of (off brand [8]) trials bikes will be making their way back to Missourri :D

Due to a change in plans I was unable to attend. Anyone have any interesting tid-bits to share?
Paul
Paul,
We missed you at York.
By the way, do you have a new grand child to brag about? Congratulations.
Tony
Tony,
I sure missed being there, I think that is the first York meet I missed since Will Stoner started that event a lot of years ago.
No new grandchild yet, but it could be at any time.
I have heard nothing except rave reviews about the event on Sunday...
I have to tip my hat to the PVR folks for telling me that my spot will be available to me in the future, I had already paid for it but called them mid-week to say I might not be attending and to please resell it if they could as I did not want to see an empty spot at such a busy swapmeet.
Take care,
Paul
Hey Mike, did you buy the Husky?
Mick
No, but he finally told me how much it would take to buy it, although he really didn't want to sell it. He really wants to rebuild the engine and keep it to race. It is very nice, and I found out that the complete chassis was just done including the Ohlins, so it wasn't priced like a project, although I also found out how cheap he got it for 3 days earlier. It is a CR390 Chassis with the taller suspension and CR engine, but with a larger chrome tank with 3 small dents, but rusty inside. I would have to wait for tax refund time to afford it once I settled all my other reponsibilities and it may be too late by then, but who knows. I would like to have it only with a WR390 engine, especially since it has a street title.
I was told by Allen Brown that they installed the CR suspension pieces on his sons WR race bike, and it made a tremendous difference in lap times, not that it would help me any, Ha ha. Mike

Be patient, there are plenty of WRs out there.
Mick
Really,
I think I would rather have the better CR suspension with a WR engine, and just lowering the forks in the chassis some, after talking to Allen Brown. It doesn't sound like that bad of a deal when you think of it like this:
How much would someone charge to have a complete chassis restored for them, including the tires, brakes, carb, shocks, frame, swingarm, cables, fenders, ready to just drop in an engine and go? Mike

My first time visit to York. Al Buehner took me under his wing, and in exchange for a little totin' of bins full o' Penton parts, I got to experience a really nice & fun event. LOTS of cool bikes, parts, and plenty of good folks.
Among those was our buddy, Lew Mayer. I told him I'd pay him a buck if he sat on this Doodlebug, then after I got the shot told him he'd have to pay me a fin to keep it off the POG site. Well, ol' Lew wouldn't ante up, so here here he is!

How much was the Duddle Bug?
Ron Carbaugh
Mike, I've been racing my 1980 390CR with 40mm forks in CC events, and it's just too tall and long for the woods. I'm going the WR route. After all, King Richard rode the WR back in the day!
PS - Lew, if you raced the doodle bug I might be able to beat you!
Mick
Paul, there was a good crowd, lots of bikes and parts traded hands. Neet stuff, ItaliaJet 350 trials bike. Bike that had the most people talking was a GILA? Most had never seen or heard of it.
Hey, Ron - you'll have to ask Lew what he finally had to give for the DB. He bought it!
Hah! Just kidding. The 'bug didn't have the correct motor innit, so the asking price was only a duce & a quarter.
Thanks Ted....it looks nice.
Ron Carbaugh
My new secret weapon for CC.:D
Ron, you probably have the right motor laying around.
Lew Mayer
Lew you look got on the race bike.
Ron Carbaugh
Wow! I finally found some extra time to get on the POG site.
Ted was my riding buddy for the weekend and we had a good time. It was Al & Ted's great adventure. He was a big help in unloading the van on Saturday and loading it up on Sunday. He saved me a lot of time and wear and tear on my back lifting and moving those storage bins.
Ted is A-OK for riding shotgun but leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to navigation. If I hadn't pulled off at that rest stop on I-80 we would have gone right past our exit and wound up in New York City. On the way back home we missed the turn off on I-81 after going around Harrisburg and almost wound up in Carlisle (the wrong direction and going around in a big circle). We pulled off at the first exit that came up and did a U-turn and Ted then directed me to keep going on I-81 when the exit I thought we should turn on to came up. We wound up having to get off at the next exit to turn around again only having to go another mile out of our way because all the streets are divided roads. Before we started packing up on Sunday at the swap meet, Ted was talking to his wife on the phone. I told him to ask his wife if she wanted me to bring him back or leave him in York. She has 3 dogs and 3 cats to keep her happy and I thought that he should check just to be on the safe side.
The York swap meet was fantastic, just like the good o'days. Wall to wall vendors and a herd of enthusiasts showed up spending money.
It was good seeing Lew Mayer, Mike Gallagher, Bob Gilman, Lee Buffenmyer, and many other POG members that I hadn't seen since last year.
Alan Buehner
Hey, folks. Here's a few more pictures from the York swap. Couple-a problems, though. First, my camera's not so hot, so sorry for the rather fuzzy images. Second, no Pentons among these pics. No excuse. I just got lazy. Finally, I loaded the pictures backwards, so the slideshow will run in reverse. I'm sure you'll figure it out, though. Enjoy.

Thanks guys for the pictures and the stories.
One of my favorite vendors at York is Bob Sholly, he usually sets up a couple of booths at York that are more like a museum exhibit than a swap meet vendor spot. I would bet a cup of hot coffee and a doughnut that Ted already knows who Sholly is even after just one trip to York. Sholly carried a national number on his Triumph back in the day and he still pals around with Gary Nixon. Gary lives not far from York and has been known to hang out at the swap meet at times.
Thanks again guys,
Paul
Among the "other" POG members at the York swap were Mike Winter, who has already checked in, Chicago Jerry, our big buddy Dan Killian, as well as those folks featured in my slide show, such as Lew Meyer and Mike Gallegher, and Mike _ _ _ (sorry, I've forgotten your last name, buddy), who is always a regular at Vintage Days. I'd say the event was quite well represented by POG'ers. It seems that no matter what the venue, when vintage bikes are involved, members of the Penton Owners Group are there in force. Tells you something, doesn't it?
Ted, that bike you asked about was a Cheney BSA purchased new, back in the day, raced and restored by Raymond (Beaver) LaForce. He wins best of show often with it. He also has a BSA Bronco that he had from new. Also perfectly restored.
Lew Mayer
Lew,
thanks for getting the Cheney Victor 441 info for Ted,
Raymond is a great guy along with his good friend Mike Slate,
they put together some beautiful vintage race bikes,
that Cheney took Best of Show this year at the Nesco Show, well deserved !!
Ray is doing my 71 B50MX, it will be a sweetie !!
2011 has started off with a bang !!
great time at York and looking forward to the rest of the year with our great POG family,
regards,
Mike Gallagher, NJ.
