Hopefully, I will not have a lot more of these questions, but.... I am putting the ignition on my bike. I believe I run the wires from the motoplat up through the rear hole in the mud guard. I know the that the black and blue wires go to the coil. My question is what do I do with the black wiring terminal (batch plug)? Does it attach to the piece attached to the frame with the two tabs? I would greatly appreciate it if someone could explain this to me or send good pictures.

Ok Mike, first of all the two wires coming from the stator should have two different size connectors on them. The black wire should have a smaller connector than the blue wire. So with the coil attached to the bike, the black wire is the lower one and the blue one is on top of that... you should not be able to mix them up so you should be good.. by the way, make sure that the ground is good and clean.. and this includes all the way to the motor, so check your motor mounts. at least one of them needs to have a good clean bare metal to bare metal to transfer ground from frame to engine. There should be a wire that grounds from the coil to the frame as well. It is like maintainance on your car battery. from time to time you need to clean the connections. I have taken to running a seperate wire from coil to the engine because it is easy to keep clean and I have discovered that the spark on the motoplat actually got better.... NO worry about asking questions, ask away, there are lots of guys who would be more than happy to help.

Thank you for the information. Can someone tell me how the black wiring terminal attaches to the frame? There is a small square piece with two prongs (prongs face toward kick starter side) that extends down from the frame (behind the coil). Does the wiring terminal attach to this? If so, then how is it done? What are the prongs for? I am baffled.

A manual would help you tremendously on this and other things to come. Not to discourage questions but the pictures & diagrams in the Penton manuals are very helpful. Al Buehner has them if you don't have one. These guys can steer you through it well also.

I purchased the only manual that Al had, and most of it is aimed at rebuilding the engine, controls, and maintenance. It has been a valuable tool in the rebuilding process. However, when I got this bike, most of it was in a box and unassembled. Unfortunately, the manual does not deal with many of the smaller details regarding the bike.These are the things that I am trying to figure out, as I would like to put it back together correctly.
I would like to stress that the wiring seems to be fine, I am trying to find out if there is a proper way to attach the black wiring terminal (where the wires plug in) to the frame. I am sorry for the confusion.

The square tab on the frame with 2 smaller tabs sticking out hold the wiring junction block securely to the frame. The small tabs stick through this junction block then are bent over, or twisted, to hold it in place. The junction block in question has 10 or more terminal screws, 5 on each side, that tighten down on the bare wires that lead to the lights, kill switch, and brake light switch, on Enduro models, and often are even in place on the MX models, but in that case most of the terminals are unused, with the exception of the kill switch.
