Title: Achtung Canada (Speedy) -VMX race near the border!
Post by: tooclose racing on March 20, 2011, 06:46:33 PM
Howdy POGGERs -its not a great week to be a BWR nuclear engineer, let me tell you.

But that's not why I write - AHRMA Northeast is going to be MX racing at Cato, NY on April 30th and I was hoping a certain Canadian could get in touch with me ([email protected]).  I'd like to send a flyer north of the border and Speedy can probably help to get our flyer to the right people.

With the exception of Michigan's racing scene, I don't think there is a lot of vintage racing less than 3 hours from the border in the Northeast. Cato is almost all natural terrain, and is laid out across some neat "drumlin" rolling hill terrain about 30 minutes northwest of Syracuse.

The snow has almost melted! Happy Vernal Equinox!

Still looking for Speedy's email if someone can help me.  We're going to open the gates for invasion from the North, but need to get word to these Canooks and hopefully tear their eyes away from watching hockey on TV.  Winter's over...time to move on.

Thanks.

Look..I know how to win races with Canadians.  I used to come up north of the border to grab your trophies and your girls at Shannonville (in a former life...).  My secret...just get ya to meet me at a local pub in Belleville or Kingston the night before.  I usually left about 10:30 pm and the next morning..well..their eyes told me they left about 2:30 am.

Top of the podium for the TooClose Racing Ducati twin....

Of course that crowd was the asphalt-hugging Canadians.  I'm sure the dirt-hugging Canadians are much more pure of spirit and dedicated to their craft. :D

Thanks again for your assistance with getting the word out on our VMX, Speedy.

TCR,
I heard the dirt riding Canuks just camped out and drank long past 2am. Usually all night.
Falling asleep by the campfire.
Of course that still didnt ensure that they wouldnt somehow, manage a
way to get on the podium..  <G>

Do you have a 2011 schedule for their events? Thanks, James

I do...or more specifically, I have a link to the NA/NE AHRMA schedule:

http://ahrma-northatlantic.org/Schedule.html

The Northeast events (VMX/PVMX/XC/Trials) are towards the bottom.  Depending on how you count them, we have 4 or 5 vintage XC races to go to in our "region". Pretty cool, huh?

Now if you're just looking for the CATO schedule go here:

http://upstatemotocross.thornwoodmx.com

Geez, if I raced a modern, I have 4 MX tracks within 45 minutes of where I live.  Pretty amazing.  Turnouts are huge at these events.  AND...they have decided to run two VMX classes (basically "70s" and "80s" classes) at some of the Cato and Thornwood events in 2011 - it ain't AHRMA, but its also not a 4 hour drive.

That's only 4 hours from me.  The Hare Scrambles race could be a lot of fun.

Speedy - will you be signing autographs at this event?
