Title: KTM Project
Post by: fasmith on March 22, 2011, 11:26:06 AM
My advance apologies for posting about a 1980's KTM - however I was not lucky enough to grow up on Pentons, but I was fortunate enough to start riding enduros on a 1980 KTM - and fall in love with KTMs.  I am a 1980s era KTM fanatic.  I am always on the lookout for KTMs from the '80s. Just in the last 5 years have I also become a fan of Pentons.  I have a 1977 GS6 400 that I rescued from a barn.  So...  I recently purchased a 1986 KTM 350 - the full bore size 350 from a fellow out in California who inherited the bike from a friend of his who passed away.  The bike is complete and original - just in need of a lot of TLC, new tires, etc.  I plan to restore this bike back to its full glory.  If I am not too badly mistaken - the '86 KTM 350 model is the bike that Kevin Hines used to win the 1987 National Enduro Championship breaking Husky's 16 years of dominance.  I had the guy autograph the headlight.

Cool!  I like KTM's too.  How come I can never find these bikes out here in CA.

Have some early white bikes too, a '79 420 and '81 495, along with '77 400 MC5. I never saw or stumbled into the earley 80s KTMs around the Pacific Northwest until I started looking a little closer and friends started to give a heads up when one showed up. I found the ones I have within an hour from home.

Still kind of rare but I see a good number of them out west. An '80 420 on Mark's now by one of our NW racers, attorney Pete in WA. Seems pretty reasonable.
