Neat photo, maybe Bill can give us some info on where it was taken, or maybe someone here might recognize the event or rider or ???

I have always been fascinated by little bits of Penton trivia, as many of you are also. One item that I found quite interesting was how John Penton got the idea to use a high breather frame.  Anyone wish to take a crack at this......

Here's a drawing of NSU's "Beruhigte Luftfilterung" or calmed air filtration system(loosely translated)as employed on Mr.Penton's NSU Maxi. This was definitely an inspiration for the Penton high breather frame.

Here's Mr.Penton in Canada? crossing a river, though not as deep as the other guy!

Before I went to the Penton Day meeting, I stopped and talked to my local Suzuki dealer. I told him where I was going and he said that when he rode against John back in the day, he learned one thing from him, you don't have to ride the bike all the time, sometimes you can get off and walk or push or pull the bike as needed.

Jeff,  Great schematic of the NSU.   How did you ever find that information?   And a great photo of John Penton demonstrating the water crossing technique.   Joe

Did anybody participate in the Portland Trail Riders Enduro in Portland, MI on May 7, 1972?  If you did, you rode through the same mud hole as our home page photo rider.

Hi Joe
I've been collecting NSU stuff for years. Here's a view of the NSU "Ultramax" overhead cam drive.
