Title: pvl timing

Just double checking on timing with the pvl on a ported engine. Instructions are generic for different cc.Those of you who are using one what do you recomend on timing

On small bore Sachs engines running PVL, 2.6-2.8 mm BTDC is a good starting point but it is dependent on the state of tune of you engine.  The PVL is so easy to adjust.  Find a long hill and accelerate up it.  Make small changes (advance/retard) and repeat the run up the hill.  You'll know when you get it right.  Remember, on a 2-stroke as the engine gains RPM and starts to run more efficiently (on the pipe) you need less advance.  Look at the published timing curves and you will see what I mean.  For engine longevity, it is safer to err on the side of less advance.

Remember, it all works together.  Any changes in fuel, compression, jetting, pipe ... will affect how the engine responds.  A 2-stroke is a simple machine ... but not really - - lots of stuff going on.
