Title: Keihin carbs
Post by: Mickey Sergeant on May 07, 2011, 12:13:52 PM
Has anyone used a keihin carb before.I see they make a 28mm. Just wondering if they are Ahrma legal, and what your thoughts are on them.

I have one on my 74 Penton 125.  I have been told it is a 28 mm.   Joe

The only Keihin that would be AHRMA legal would be one off a '74-75 Elsinore 125. It has to be round slide all the new ones are oval, D or square slide. The Elsinore did use a 28mm if my memory is right, but its no better than a Mikuni and parts are both cheaper and easier to find for the Mikuni.

Yes, The round slide VM Mikuni is the best carb of the era.  Sadly the newer oval and flat slide Mikuni are not as good as the Keihin. Back then a Keihin was primarily a 4 stroke carb.

Good point, Dwight.  Any carb which was jetted for a four-stroke might not be ideal for a two-stroke engine.
