Title: Penton Motocross tank needed.
Post by: TedG on June 06, 2011, 05:26:43 PM
In 1975 Penton offered a small motocross tank that held a little over 1 gallon. Anyone have one that want to part with?

Ted,

I think there were several different colors of tanks offered, what color do you need?

Paul,
Thanks, I am thinking blue. Are you thinking of the plastic Clarke tanks? Those are two gallon and seem to be bigger than the ones that came on the 250. Although I may have to use one of them.
I am building a Flat Tracker out of my old Mint 400. It has been sitting for years and my old flat tracking buddies are beating me over the head to go racing with them. So I need a small tank, and as you know the Penton KTM frame is wide at the back of the tank and I don't know of any other design that will work on it.

If you are wanting a very nice blue MX tank that fits the high breather frame, I have one that is close to new with JP's signature on it. I got it from Kip Kern for a project bike that has taken a different direction. Its a $200 tank, though. Mike

Here are the pics that Kip took before he shipped it to me in 2008. I'll take some more Thursday when I get back home from work. It has sat on a shelf since then. Mike

Ted,
I got a failed message report when I tried to send you inhouse mail. Please email me at [email protected] & I will send you the pics.
I haven't rec'd any emails and the one I tried to send permanently failed.
I noticed the filler neck has some significant rusting, so I soaked the neck portion in the small amount of Evaporust that I had left over from long ago and it wasn't quite deep enough to get it all, but here are a couple of the pics. The tank is very clean inside, but because of the filler neck, the price is reduced to $175 including shipping. Thanks, Mike

It would be a crying shame to take that signed tank and use it for what I am going to do. I have to think about it. Thanks for posting that picture.

TedG,
Please let me know, as someone else has spoken for it if you don't want it. Thanks, Mike

Go on ahead and sell it, I am not quite ready to go for it. I am considering modifying the frame to accept a more standard tank.
Thank you for posting those pictures and hopefully it helped you sell that tank.
