Title: Powder Coating Frames
Post by: desmond197 on June 12, 2011, 12:52:39 PM
For the last 20 years I have been using spray can paint for my frames. I have been thinking of powder coating some of the frames of my bikes. Has the tech gotten better on this stuff. I was reluctant to do this in the past as it seemed to chip and re powder coating was going to be a pain. What are you guys doing these days? I do ride my bikes and they are no show bikes. They get dirty.

Thanks

I had the frame on my Jackpiner powder coated and I am going back tp painting my frames. The powder coating, to me, does not hold up to chemicals as well as painting. (at least in my opinion)

I have used House of color paints and their clears hold up very well.

If it's a show bike, powder coat, but if it's a rider....paint it

I spray mine (paint gun) and only powder coat the rear shock springs as original.

I agree with Donny.  We have a guy in North Houston who does great powder coating and it holds up.  I use the paint for expensive original restorations (s Kip stated) that way I can paint it again if I am not happy with the first results.

It is always easy to touch up a "rider" frame with paint.  Thanks for sharing your experiences.   Joe
