Title: VMD
Post by: Gene Saunders on July 07, 2011, 07:52:07 PM
I was going to buy a ticket on line to save money today. I seen if you buy it now it's $35.00 or at the gate it's $45.00. I was almost ready to buy when I see it's $8.99 shipping and handling. So, you save $1.01 to buy in advance. Is this right? Or am I missing something?

I used to buy them early, but after the shipping costs, just the same as buying at the gate.

I ordered some for Mike G and Michael and our crew to consolidate the shipping cost and will divey them up at the entry lineup on Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Just a thought for those coming early. Mike

Is entry still free with a race entry?  I haven't entered yet, but will soon.  Also, is there still a free pit pass for each each race entry?

Starting with last years event the gate entry and race entry are seperate.  Each individual entering VMD needs to purchase a gate pass.

Just wanted to make it official.  TooClose Racing will NOT be attending VMD this year.  Gotta buy a new house next month - not a trivial matter. Great interest rate though....Anyway, making our best attempt at cash hoarding before this all goes down.

I will miss racing in XC races on Friday, I will REALLY miss not getting another shot at opening up a can of whoop-ass on Gary Ellis in PV.  And this year was also going to be fun because Jeff Fredette is going to be going for the (overall) Grand National Championship.  Kawi is preparing several bikes for him to run in the various events.  Last weekend someone reminded me that Jeff is a (current or past?) ice racing champion, so the Flat Track should come pretty natural to him.

Better bring your best game, Mr. Buttrick....

And I always enjoy my "drive-by" of the Penton Village and saying hello to Paul D, Al B., Michael W, and our other deities. Okay FINE, I'm really there for the food.  [8D]

Dale, that's part of the reason I stopped attending. It used to be a good deal if you were a competitor. Plus I'm racing at Mountainfest the next week.

Just cancelled my hotel room at the Super 8 in Ashland, OH (419-281-0567), about 20 minutes from the track .  [V]

They still have availability, but no double beds - just Kings.  Imagine the possibilities. ;)

Best of Luck to my fellow Penton (and Team Pentovarna) racers who will be making the journey.  Bring home the wood for Penton/KTM.

I'm also not sure where the AMA is going with the MX class structure.  Looked at the on-line registration for the 125 B/C class and found 1-12 Year old, 3-13 Year olds, 1 - 15 or 16 Year old and then the old guys.  Didn't register for that class....  Next only a 250 & Open class?  Only choice to ride something like my Triumph 500 would be the 50 senior class.  There were only two four-strokes there last year and it is doubtful any will race this year [xx(]  I'm bringing the Berkshire :D

Update:  12 Year old in the 100 B/C Class.....

Man....this is just killing me.  Sitting in my office, teleconference-this, evaluate that, and who assigned me this Action Item without telling me?

When I would normally be in my second XC race of the day at VMD - the PVs that started at noon!  Ahhh!!!

Gotta be warm over there in Ohio - I did a mountain bike ride last night at 6 pm in 90+ degree weather - just to Punish myself for not going to VMD. Bad Bob, bad Bob, pedal harder!

Gary Roach - if you see this, maybe you can report in on some of the XC action...Cory vs. Jeff, Gary Ellis, some of your team efforts.  Did Pat Giddings return to re-claim his 2009 Vint 200 Int trophy?

So .... How was the racing? How big were the classes? MX CC Trials turnout? How was Ashland? Someone from here must have raced or watched.
I know it's only the first day after. But I enjoy reading the feedback and race reports, as I was unable to be there myself.

I was there Thursday evening to Saturday evening. I would say there was a good turn out for the races. Not sure just how many but the gates where full. It was very hot during the day but we had a little rain Friday evening and cool things off alittle. I raced the vintage hare scramble Friday morning. My Jackpiner ran very rich and ended with a fouled plug. I still finish 3rd out of about 9 people in 0-200 B/C class. I help some friends in the pits on Saturday. VMX was great to watch. I had a good time. See you guys at MT.fest CC

There seemed to be more vintage than PV in the hare scrambles. The course really kept you busy!

As far as the trials goes, I would say that the participation was down, but there seemesd to be a lot more A riders this year. It was extremely humid in the woods for the trials event. The course was definatly harder this year as the rain from the previous night made it a lot slicker.

Also, I would like to thank the @$&^$#$ who turned off our generator in the middle of the night on Thursday (no fellow Poggers were involved, just some jealous campers)

Thanks for the report on the Trials Mike.
I'm proud to say, three of those A riders you spoke of are from my local clubs; Rhode Island Trials Club and New England Trials Association. A father, son and daughter team went out there for the first time. Dave Allen won his class, his son Danny won his class and Dave's daughter Caroline, who rides the Advanced line on a modern bike, in New England, rode her first Vintage event there, as well.

I only saw one woman I belive out there.  Is she kinda short with red hair? She was pretty good.  I didn't fair so well. I haven't done any trials riding at all except for the back yard once or twice. It seemed that on the easier sections I rode like crap and got a 5. On the harder ones I either zeroed or two'd. Kinda like when I shoot pool. I can make the hard shots, but couldn't shoot a ball straight in.   I wished they would have marked the course better though.

161 through 176 are friends from here in New England. Father and daughter. Oddly enough, the son, who won the overall event, isn't anywhere to be found in the photos. And they all rode together.

Yeah, I noticed that.
I think I know what happened...he went thru those sections so quickly that the cameraman didn't have time to get his lens cap off.:D

Do you know what model Bul he was riding?

Danny's bike is a 1976 M182 Sherpa T 250. He rides it well. He won the New England Vintage Championship, on that bike last year.
