Title: POG at VMD
Post by: Paul Danik on July 19, 2011, 06:11:37 PM
Greetings,

For anyone who has not attended VMD in the past, the POG has a large tent put up to provide a nice place for gathering during the event. It is located inside the swap meet on the east side of the demo ride area.  The booth spaces are 159 - 164, they are along the chain link fence, we usually are not hard to find :)

Sometimes chairs can be hard to come by, so if you plan on hanging around feel free to bring a chair and maybe put your name on it just in case...

If you want to bring a Penton or Pentons for display please feel free to do so. Machines of any condition are welcome as many folks enjoy seeing barn fresh bikes as well as great restorations and racers.

On Saturday evening we will be having our annual POG meeting inside the tent at around 6pm, just after dinner.

If you have some time to help man the POG sales table during the event please stop by.  On Sunday as the event winds down there is a good bit of packing up to do, any help is greatly appreciated.

There is lots to do during the event, I personally always enjoy the seminars, I would encourage you to check out the schedule of speakers early so as to not miss any that you might want to hear.  This link will take you to a schedule of non-racing events for the weekend, you might want to print it out.

The link below is for the weekend race schedule.

If you have attended the event and wish to pass along any thoughts on what to see and do please feel free to do so.

Thanks,
Paul

Thanks for the helpful info Paul. This will be my first VMD, so I'm really looking forward to meeting other POG members, seeing the bikes and watching some of the competition. Plan to arrive mid-day Friday and be back for part of the day Saturday before heading back to PA in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, my Six-day is still a work in progress so I won't be bringing it this time. Maybe next year.

Larry,

Please be sure to introduce yourself, it is nice to be able to put a face to the folks that we meet online.

John Penton can be found at the tent fairly often over the weekend, if you want something autographed this is a great place and time to do so.

We will have about 20 copies of the May 2011 issue of Trail Rider available at the POG tent, this is the issue with the write up on the Penton Day at the AMA meeting held last Feb.  The article also contains some great photos, including one of Tom, Jeff and Jack sitting together in an interesting setting.

We will also have the hardback John Penton book available at the tent, as well as the new POG shirts for this year.  I am pretty sure that we will also have some of the remaining shirts from years gone by on sale...all great items to have signed.

Will you have tickets for Dane's fund raiser at VMD?

Ken,

I personally will not have any of those tickets.  Possibly someone else will.

On another subject, we will be having a very special "what's in your garage" presenter at the POG meeting. She was so excited to do this she excitedly called me at 1:51 am the other morning to say she would do the presentation, I am glad I was having a lousy dream at time :D Did I say "she", hope I didn't let the cat out of the bag......

Hey Dan Killian (or Paul to pass along to Dan) - if you see this...Gary Ellis was going to finish a set of 38mm forks for me and possibly bring them to VMD.  If you have room to brings these back to upstate, that would be a big help and save on some postage.

Thanks,

TooClose

Bob, those guys have my sympathy out there in this heat. Not a good day for racing OR walkin' the swap meet. Good for visiting with POG buddies, though, and enjoying an adult beverage.:D

How warm is it going to get at VMD? Perhaps it won't be as miserable as Central Texas. You don't know fun until you wear a ballistic vest and a dark blue uniform in day after day of 100 plus heat.

I wish I was at VMD. I attended last year and had a great time.

Bob, I did see Gary, but he didn't mention anything about the forks. I had to leave for home early today because of a kidney stone flair up. 6th one. got home ok.

Big thanks to the folks who talked with my daughter while she was there. She was stoked that people she didn't know would sit and talk. I told her that's the kind of people the vintage motorcycle community brings together. Now she has a better understanding of why I like it.
