I've recently found that a local independent gas station near me offers 100% gasoline, no ethanol, but it is "mid-grade". This came about as I live on a river where a lot of boaters have been complaining about the problems they have with their engines that are a result of the ethanol in the gas. The guy that owns the station says he can legally sell the ethanol free stuff because he is an independent. So....I was thinking......could the mid-grade (89) be combined with some octane booster from the auto stores to provide safe fuel for the Pentons without having to go with caswell coating the fiberglass tanks?

Keith-Why not mix the mid grade with some race gas-75/25% or only as much as you need to avoid detonation(pinging).I use VP with no problems,have even left it in the tank for months even though i know thats not a good idea(it comes in a metal gas can for a couple good reasons).I've heard some of the octane boosters eats tanks but cant think of the name of the chemical that eats fiberglass up.Later,

Why not jet and time your engine to run on 89 octane ?

Find a local Sunoco station that offers race gas and get Purple. It is alcohol-free, 112 octane and leaded. Expensive, but the solution I am using.

Go to Reynolds hardware and buy a STEEL gas can. Then go to USA Performance on Hwy 29 just south of Nine Mile in Ensley and get some Sunoco race fuel, or go to to Ferguson field on 98 and get some LL100 AVgas. Mix that 1:2 or 1:3 race/pump and you will be good, thats what I do and I run it in all my bikes, vintage and modern. Add some fuel stabilizer and in the steel can that non-ethanol fuel will last a LONG time in storage. With this formula, you get all the octane you need, but it minimizes the amount of race/av fuel you have to buy.

Just filled my gas cans in Olney, Ill. at the Marathon station. 93 octane, no alcohol, $3.80. Yamaha shop says they sell to a lot of boat owner is why they have it.
The web-site //www.pure-gas.org led me to two local gas stations in my area (Southern Illinois) that sell 92 octane straight gas (non-ethanol). I don't know the motives behind this site but it helped me in finding straight gas. One of the stations is a Shell station located near a large lake and has the gas available primarily for boaters.
I checked the web site for stations near me, but they are all a ways away. Brian, I think your idea should work out well, since those stores are nearby,

The gas station south of Jackson on New Warrington by the Pensacola Motorsports has non-ethanol gas but I dont know what octane it is. My station here only has non-ethanol in 90 octane.

I run Family Express 93 octane mixed 50:1 with Polaris Gold oil. I use it in all my two stokes: modern, vintage, Weed-Eater lawn mower, and my Husqvarna chain saw with no problems. With my dirt bikes I drain the fuel out of the tanks after each ride if I don't plan on riding in the next few days.
