Post by: chicagojerry on August 09, 2011, 02:30:32 PM
hi guys. i was contacted to see if i could help locate a jackpiner for the portland michigan nat'l aug 20th on vintage day in particular. the legends group has been honoring differnt bikes at the various venues and portland chose a piner as their honoree. i almost certainly have to work that weekend so i probably can't make  it. anyone interested in bringing their 'piner there?  if so, please call me at 440 213 5146    or my email is [email protected]
thanks guys. hopefully we can make this happen..    [8D] chi jer

Jerry,

We are honoring the Penton Jackpiner at the AHRMA event this week end.  Do you know if any of the Penton guys are coming?  If we have enough I would like to run a Penton only moto.  Is anyone coming that might have a Jackpiner?

yea lew, thats it. its not too bad but its hard to use the rear brake when riding. that motion of raisng my toes to get on the rear brake pedal while sitting on the seat hurts. its getting better but not there yet. the isdt tune-up this last weekend was just survival mode for me.     chi jer

Talked to Jerry this evening.  Bringing my Jackpiner for show along with the Triumph 500 for the sand hill.  Friday I became unemployed from my job of almost nine years due to economic reasons.  Have been busy the last couple of days organizing the three project bikes 72' Cheney Sachs,'70 Cheney Triumph 500 Twin, and '70 Penton Six Days :D

This post has been really weighing on me heavily.  I started racing motocross on a 72 Jackpiner.  I cant ignore a tribute to this motorcycle, espicially in relation to MX.  I will do all I can to make it.  The vintage race is on Sat correct? If I make it and feel up to it I will ride 50 plus expert and the Penton moto, if one (only on a 400, not a 175!) and bring my 72 and 97 Jackpiners.  I will really try, but connot guarantee anything due to I run my own business and the customers will decide how late I have to work Friday, plus I havent been feeling real well lately...but i will try like hell! I am guessing it is about a 4.5 hour trip from central IL.

You can still sign up for a National on race day, cant you?  I havent raced in 9 months and havent raced an AHRMA National in years. Yikes!

Portland report:  Three Jackpiners were displayed at the riders meeting.  I brought mine and Mike Lentz brought one in MX trim and his modern KTM Jackpiner tribute model.  A large AHRMA Jackpiner banner was also on display and the awards for the day had a picture of a Jackpiner featured.  Mike may have been lucky enough to collect one but no such luck on my end....  :(

Mike was in the first drop and is seen mid-picture.  I was in the second drop and of course seen in the foreground.

Thanks for the report Dale.  Had a great time, neat semi sandy track with lots of traction.  After the event rode the 72 Jackpiner around the track at speed.  Brought back alot of memories from my days on them in 72 and 73.  What an incredable powerband for a 175.  Just all go, with no pop or bark. Maico style or 4 stroke power.  I wish I could get my 400 to run like that and still be fast!
