Looks like this Sunday at Glen Helen for vintage/post vintage/modern and the Marty Tripes 100's. Weather looks good, about 80 degrees. I missed the "Ranch" last month because it was on a Saturday, but plan to make this weeks event. Anyone else from the group going to make it? Garrett? Victor? Bill? Ric? SoCal?????
I am going with my DKW for Marty's race
Stepho, we talked a few months ago at Comp Edge. You were having some shifting problems with the Sachs motor. How is the motor now?
You guys have to see this DKW. Stepho has made some over the top, sano mods including front and rear discs, etc, etc, etc. Maybe you can post a few pics.
I will see you on Sunday. I think I will be bringing the MC5 and the CZ.

Ric, I have wanted to to Day-In-The-Dirt for years, but we usually do a 3-4 day Thanksgiving camping trip out to Cal. City or Charlies Place. Last year went to Cal City, hadn't been there in about 12-15 years, what a mess, literally tens of 1,000s of out of control kids. We were thinking about going back to Charlies place but if we don't go, I thought maybe D-I-T-D might be a good alternative. What days are you going and what are you riding? Do they have vintage/post-vintage classes? Is it at Pala now? Good luck at Speedworld.

Cal City has been a zoo for a while now so we drive the extra distance to go out to Wagon Wheel aka Charlie's Place. There is some real great riding out there especially if you loop around and end up in Randsburg for a stop at the general store. I have always heard that DITD is by invitation only so not sure how easy it is to attend. I do have one friend who has been riding it for years and has always said that it is a fun event. If you can get invited..you should attend.
I just pulled up the DITD website. It appears that entries are open to anyone, but I heard this weekend that they will close the entries for a specific class after the entries for a class is maxed out.
Charlies Place has been my favorite desert spot for about the past 15 years. Always at least one trip to Randsberg to the White Horse Saloon.
Still waiting for the family to decide, Desert or DITD.
Either way, win-win.

Try and get your hands on a movie called Desert Racers. It was filmed in 1981 and includes footage of the Invaders Downhill which is out at Red Mountain. It is located in what is now a closed area but I remember going down that hill a couple of times during races and it looked a lot steeper from the top than you can imagine watching it on film. The secret was to scrub off as much speed as possible without locking up the brakes and just hang on. If I had to go down it today, I would use the alternate and go around (even if it cost me time). I guess I am getting old......
