Title: 68 shocks
Post by: Mike Lenz on April 28, 2002, 12:52:54 PM
Anyone know how long the 68 shocks were? Hagon offers some fully covered shocks. Anyone tried to use these for a 68 restore. They are all chrome but could blast and paint them. Which parts were chrome on the stock 68 shocks? Any help appreated.

Mike  The 68 shocks are 13 3/4" eye to eye.  69-71 are 13 1/2" eye to eye.  The upper cover is painted to match the tank/airbox and the lower cover is chrome.  The lower body of the shock is also painted to match the top cover.  If you are using the old style long chain guard, the diameter of the lower cover is crucial as it will rub the chain guard.  Good Luck

Also,You don't have to blast the chrome to paint it, simply scuff the tar out of it with brown scotchbrite, acid etch primer the cover and paint!
