A 1977 400 motor and frame; Has a white tank which was painted rattle can blue, I would say a west coast KTM looks like wrong seat. What bike had the blue and yellow ?

Yes wrong seat. No bike in 1977 was blue and yellow.I think that bike was used in a qualifier at some piont. Paint on the rear hub, triple clamp and front forks. Could be an early 1978 bike. Later Gary

My early 76 MC5 125 had the side rails on the seat and an aluminum seat pan. I have seen West coast 175's that were blue, but not sure about a 400. The silver frame looks like a 77 with the dual position footpegs. Mike

Larry,A friend of mine Bill Tarling rode for KTM West (along with Tom Kelly and Bob Balentine)in 76-78 SCORE races and D37 before going to Team Honda. His bikes were blue with yellow or maybe white#plates with the bigger toaster like tanks, then the white/orange frames later on.I remember prerunning the pavement section coming out of Ensenada with Billy the morning of the 1000 in 77 and his bike was definitely blue that year.As far as the markings go,i don't remember the color SCORE or D37 6day qualifiers used that year-it's been a long time[:0] but Gary could be right.Later,

1977 GS6 250 and 400s were distibuted in the west with the KTM badge and WERE blue, while MC5s were almost a Tahitian red. I've owned both with original paint. But blue GS6s I've seen have all had a rear seat loop and turtle back frames, and a few other subtle frame differences.
