I've only missed a couple but I will miss this one. I assumed that this years dates would be later in the month and our family vacation is scheduled for this time. I know, I know, I should have checked the dates. We are taking both grandaughters [and thier parents] to the mountains for the girls first time. I'll miss my Penton family tho.

I am looking forward to the event, but will really miss not having Al with us this year.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Off-road demo rides come to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- How can you make a perfect day at the American Motorcyclist Association's AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days, July 20-22 in Lexington, Ohio, even more perfect? Include off-road demo rides on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course infield.

For the first time at this popular annual event, KTM will have several of the company's new XC and XCW off-road bikes available for demonstration rides. Prospective buyers will get to see and experience the Austrian company's 2013 lineup.

Mark Hyde, KTM's Ride Orange manager and a former AMA National Hare Scrambles champ and International Six Days Enduro gold medalist, will run the off-road demo area.

"AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days might celebrate classic bikes and the people who ride them, but we're also all fans of modern motorcycles," Hyde said. "We're excited to offer attendees this opportunity to experience some of the latest off-road technology. We will have fresh-from-the-factory 2013 models for potential buyers to ride, and I'm sure they'll come away impressed."

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days attendees will need to be over 18 years old, have photo identification and bring, at minimum, a helmet, eye protection, gloves, motorcycle boots and long pants. Additional off-road riding gear, such as knee guards, a jersey and elbow pads, is recommended.

With proceeds supporting the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the country's premier celebration of vintage motorcycles and motorcycling heritage. In addition to demo rides of current street and off-road motorcycles, the event includes amateur national championship roadracing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track in vintage classes. The weekend also features North America's largest motorcycle swap meet, bike shows, a classic field meet for motorcycles and scooters, and seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts.

This year's AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will celebrate the classic "Rockers and Mods" two-wheeled subculture that is experiencing a popular resurgence in America. Activities will shine a spotlight on British café-racer motorcycles and Italian metal-bodied scooters made popular by the self-described Rockers and Mods of the early 1960s.

The Grand Marshal this year is AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame member and noted designer Craig Vetter, whose contributions to motorcycling range from the iconic Windjammer fairings and the Triumph X-75 Hurricane to the Mystery Ship limited-production high-performance motorcycles and a number of high-profile motorcycle fuel-economy contests.

AMA members can purchase a weekend pass to AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days for $35, a $10 savings off the regular advance rate, and a one-day pass for $20, a $5 savings off the regular advance rate. The AMA member discount is in addition to the regular $10 savings on advance ticket purchases, and there is no service charge for AMA members when purchasing through the AMA. Kids under 12 get in free with a paying adult.

Hi POGERs,  I'm going to Pitts.PA to see the vintage sportcar races at Shenley Park.  I've been wanting to go for many years.  The Vin Spcars races have fallen on the same weekends as the passed VMD as well as this one.  Too bad that they can't be on differnt weekends.  I've got to get this one checked off my bucklet list.  ;)  Amherst Paul

I'm studying going to the VMD this year - I haven't been since AHRMA was disaffiliated ( went in 2008 and a fine fellow named Born signed me up in the POG). Can anyone advise when the CC sign-up shuts down on Friday?  The AMA schedule on the web doesn't list sign-ups as occurring on Saturday and I'd be arriving late Friday. Thanks.

Good morning and Happy Day after July 4th!  The pre-registration has definitely been the way to go under the current management.  When I show up at that Ross Road gate on the west end, the tent is right at the gate, ba-da-bing, ba-da-boom, you're done.  Unless my memory fails me....

Got a hotel (Wooster for chrissakes!)for the posse, still need to do my registrations, glad we have till the 15th.  Looking forward to the CC course (did they run it backwards last year?), the swap meet, POG brethren, and watching some roadracing when I have a chance. Do NOT look forward to the Field of Dreams MX track.

Time to start bike preps post-Unadilla.  I've definitely got a few things to figure out with my sleds.  But I'll do whatever it takes to finish in front of Gary Ellis. : - )

Hello fellow POGer's,
I attended Vintage days about 3 years ago just for the day I believe it was Saturday and was mainly there for the swap meet and trying to find Penton parts.

I would like to come this year for 2-3 days but I am a little apprehensive in asking my questions. I'm hoping that fellow POGers could give me some insight?

First is it better to get a camping pass and camp on site, if that's possible, not being a vendor? Or try and get a hotel room if available? (2-nights Friday and Saturday)

Second, question, and I may have missed prior postings explaining what POG events are happening during vintage days?  I would like to get more involved with POG, and was wondering what events are planed for the group and offer my services to help our organization.

If you wish to contact me off site my e-mail address is [email protected]

Thanks

If you like to camp, you realy never have to leave the grounds once you're there. I prefer a motel, I like the bed and running water and A/C.
As to POG events, the meeting Sat eve is realy the only "official" function, the rest of the time is getting to meet and talk to fellow POGgers. and the swapmeet, and the races, and.......

Dear All,

There will be on-site registration for racing at Mid-Ohio.  I read Mick's message from July 4  and called AMA on Friday and spoke to Tamara who is responsible for MX registration and she confirmed that the on-site registration will be available as in the past and was surprized to hear that something otherwise was being said.

Any and all Pentons are welcome to be displayed in the POG booth area, better known as Pentonville. We do ask that you remove your bike as the day winds down as we can't be responsible for it overnight.

If you have a Penton that you wish to sell it is more than welcome as well.

We always are in need of POG/Penton ambassadors to hang around Pentonville to answer questions and great the visitors, if you have a desire to hep out just drop by and let us know. In my early years at VMD I used to feel that the "treasures" were to be found in the swapmeet, today I mostly look forward to hearing the "treasured" stories of the folks who visit Pentonville, must be an age thing :)

Dane Leimbach and Al Born will surely be missed at this event.

Paul
