Title: Electrical woes...
Post by: MonkeyBoy on May 16, 2002, 09:17:04 PM
My 250 two-stroke is finally back together but I do not have a spark.  The obvious problem is that the spark plug wire has separated at the spark plug boot.  Two questions I have:  First, is splicing an option, secondly, is there a way I can know if the coil is good?  You guys have been a great help, thanks again.

I have spliced a motoplat coil wire and it worked fine..I shaved back about a quarter inch on both..then put a piece of heat shrink tubing about 3" long on..soldered the wires together and then slid the tubing over and heated it for a tight secure fit and it worked ok.

if there is enough length in the coil wire you can just cut it back and reinstall the spark plug connector and boot. or better yet buy a new one and install it.
Most bike shops carry a waterproff spark plug boot and connector
