Title: Shocks touching frame?? Is this unusual
Post by: phats on September 07, 2012, 02:41:37 AM
Hi all,

I have a 79 GS250 KTM, just put some new 370mm YSS shocks on, and the springs touch the frame??

Is it normal that the shocks are close to the frame on this year?

Cheers

Yep bought a pair for a 79 frame and put them on my 81 125 instead. Glad to hear you got them fitted. I may do the same. Cheers Bill

Use longer mounting studs and shim the shocks out with flat washers.
.062 goes a long ways with most of this stuff.

The problem with the top shock mounts is that they are sandwiched in between the mounting bracket and there is no real easy way to move the shocks outward, because they barely fit into the bracket opening as is, unlike top mounts on a Husky that just slip over a shaft. Mike

Yes, ive now managed to fit them, i had to dent (my newly powder coated!) frame in underneath the top mounts about 0.25".

The 78/79 bikes do seem very limited in terms of shock choice, its also difficult to find shocks 370mm in length, well here in the UK anyway.
