Title: 175ccc Pistons, the tall and short of it....
Post by: DKWRACER on May 21, 2002, 08:34:16 PM
I know this issue was raised earlier so I'm trying to recall some factual info...when did KTM make a change? The pistons I have are completely different, one is tall, the other is short (skirt) does this suggest that the stroke of 175's changed at some point in time or is there a big difference in barrels/piston combos and port timing etc...

Vertically challenged????

Thanks, Tom Brosius

Tom,
from my 77 repair manual it looks like the cylinder changed in Augest of 76. i have one of both. The stroke is the same  but the cylinder height is not. There is a lot of difference in the porting of the two barrels .
What size is the short piston you have? Is it a single ring or a double ring piston?
