Title: Blown Base Gasket?
Post by: Mick Milakovic on October 12, 2012, 06:28:50 AM
Hi All,

Does anyone know how to test for a blown base gasket?  The bike runs, but is very lean and hard to keep running after it begins to warm up.  Thanks in advance,

Mick

Poor man style:  Inspect for areas of seepage in the gasket area. You may also spray WD 40 along the base gasket while the engine is running and see if the RPM's change.

Ultimately: Perform a leak down test.

Also check for signs of leakage at the head gasket.  Oily residue gathers dust and is a sign of leakage at both the head and base gasket.

But, as already advised . . . do a pressure test.

Sounds like the ignition side crank seal.
