Title: Tire For 73 JP
Post by: Keith Meatyard on December 16, 2012, 10:20:10 PM
Guys, I need a rear tire for a 73 JP, and I know the Pirelli M16 110/100-18 is close to the original.  I saw some new Continental MX 120/90's on ebay for $50 incl shipping.  The Pirelli is around $ 75 min plus shipping.  Do any of you know if this Continental is close enough?

If you are going with a modern tire I would go with Metzeler , that is what brand they had on them . Online at  motorcyclesupestore has free shipping . Or the Pirelli will match the tread  but it will say the P word, 110/100 is a bit large unless they run small.  I have a 100/100 dunlop on a 250.

Metzler is owned by Pirelli now and the Metzler Unicross and MT16 are made in the same plant in Brazil. The Metzler rear is only available in one size and is too big for a 175, it would work on a 250 or 400 though. The only Continental off road tire is a modern looking tire, all the others are dual purpose tires. By far, the best tire that looks period correct and is available in a size for a 175 is the MT16.

Maxxis makes a 100/100-18 that will do the job and has the Vintage look, Google Maxxis and you will find it,

Go with the Pirelli or the Metzeler.
Nuff said.
