Post by: metalkfab on May 28, 2002, 04:05:13 PM
My 175 'Piner is producing a very weak spark. What can the culprit be ? How do I check and where do I start? It ran fine when I parked it,now it won't fire and the spark is weak.

I realize that you may have checked some of the following. Try a new plug.  Be sure that the sparky is in good shape and that it is making good plug contact. Take the leads off the coil under the tank and use some WD40 on them and then make sure they are put on properly.  Use WD40 on and in the sparky.  If you have a kill switch be sure it isn't shorting out.  Remove the mag cover and use some WD40 to dry out any moisture. Make sure that the coil is REALLY grounded well against the frame.  I used to always run an extra ground strap on my coil to the frame.  I also make sure that paint isn't preventing a good ground.  If needed pull the unit and have Dane run a check on it.  He can remagnetize the flywheel if needed. Look for a spot where a wire has gotten burned through by the pipe or cylinder or head. Pull the flywheel and check for any rust ect on the inside.  Don't ever park that sucker again, just keep on riden!!!!!!!!  Hope this helps  Paul
