Thinking about picking this bike up for me  would $1600 sound like a good price ? Are there spares engine  parts abound?

LG,

this "IS" a very fine looking bike from the photo you supplied,
but the "RV" motor - reed valve - is what i believe to be a 1 year model,
if i remember correct Kent K. was looking for a piston for one of these and they are un-obtainable

my .02

Mike, I'm not so sure that's the case anymore. My 81 KTM 250 GS, luckily has an RV cylinder and it's an absolutely amazing motor. Anyway, piston's aren't that difficult to find for either the 81 or 82 bikes.  Wossner makes pistons for 77-82 motors.

However, some items are to find. Items like the gear shifter, forks, exhaust, bottom ends in good condition, are hard to find.  You just have to keep an eye out on ebay, craiglist, etc, to find these parts.  But, they are out there.  If you want new NOS items, Andre Horvath at http://www.enduroklassiker.at/ is the euro connection. I've ordered items from him, and although it may take some time for items to arrive here -- it's well worth the wait.

Nonetheless, that's a nice looking bike. If you decide to buy it and need an repair manual please contact me and I'll send you a photo copy of the 82 factory repair manual.
