Title: Speaking of engine stays...
Post by: brian kirby on February 07, 2013, 06:42:09 PM
I've decided I want to make some head stays, the 400 engines really should have had head stays from the factory instead of case stays. They wont be trick CNC aluminum, but I will post pictures when I get something figured out. All the stuff I build is done so it is like what a person would have done "in the day".

Good idea,  I always thought it should but with my limited resources, no solution presented it self to me..

Brian,

The Hercules engines had real tall cylinder head nuts that would take a bolt in the top to secure the head stays. The extra height got you above the fins. That would make for an easier to fabricate stay.

Maybe Speedy or Al Buehner can hook you up with the nuts.

A couple years ago I sat down for a bit and looked at it, but I dont remember what I decided. I'll look again, but the extended head nut idea seems like the easiest way to clear the head fins without cutting any of them out.
